Golf Link
Everything you need to know about Shillong

Golf Link in Shillong was the first 18-hole golf course in India. But it is not just for people who can swing the golf club; it is open to common people as well. The extraordinary beauty of the place invites not just golfers but everyone who cares about beauty. It is also called ‘Gleneagles of the East’ because of its natural beauty and resemblance to the Gleneagles by the United States Golf Association Museum.
In 1898 the Golf Link began with only 9-hole course, but it was converted into 18-hole course in 1924 by Captain Jackson. It is one of the best things the British left behind in Shillong. Standing here, I could imagine the place all covered with pine trees before the Bristish came. They saw the potential and the beauty of the place. The locals could not have spared such luxurious land for a silly game of hitting a small white ball. They would be more interested in using the land for cultivation and other purposes. If this was not done, this place would have been terrace rice fields or occupied by big houses.  Shillong’s golf course is located at the lower valley near the Polo ground. It consist of many small knolls covered in green carpet that rise and fall like gentle waves; and occasionally dotted by golden pine trees. Few years ago it was a secluded place but now people have moved in closer and the risk of losing this beauty to indifferent behaviours has increased.

David Scott’s Trail
Everything you need to know about Shillong

Ladmawphlang to Mawphlang: David Scott.  British Administrator, political agent to the British Raj, and all around bad-boy left something behind that still exists in bits and pieces till this day. His operations and reach stretched about 29 years (1802-1832) in the Khasi Hills and the surrounding low-lying areas. These areas are now in Bangladesh and the Indian states of Meghalaya and Assam. One of the few tangible remainders of the infamous David Scott, is the horse-cart trail that he built which stretched from Cherrapunjee, now properly called Sohra, to Bangladesh. This road caused a war between the Khasi people, led by U Tirot Singh, king of the Khadsawphra Syiemship and the British. The Khasi forces were finally defeated by British muskets, artillery and superior military strength but not before the bows, arrows and guile of the native people had given the English 4 years worth of guerrilla-warfare style grief. U Tirot Singh was ultimately captured and deported to Dhaka, now the capital of Bangladesh where he died on 17th July 1835. The stretch between Ladmawphlang village to Mawphlang village is roughly 16 kms long and is a picturesque day hike. This was originally the horse-cart road that connected the plains of Slyhet (now in Bangladesh) to Assam. Winding around, descending and ascending a rough elevation of about 1400 m, the trail leads from sleepy little Ladmawphlang village to Mawphlang. Both villages which deserve their own chapters in the annals of Khasi history, culture and folklore, especially Mawphlan

Well, you must have seen the places in the pictures by now, and if you wish to visit Shillong and don’t know how to go about, well I l briefly helped you locating the place.
Anyways if you are coming from North, East, West, South, It doesn’t matter, Guwahati is the main station for you. Guwahati is the capital of Asssam, the centre hub for Northeast. You can always reach Guwahati by train or by flight which is more reliable on you. As you reach Guwahati, take a bus or a taxi to go to Shillong (through passenger taxi), it is about 150 Kilometres from Guwahati which would take around maximum 2 to 3 hours to reach Shillong.

Mr. Moko on line, listen to his track

Hello, welcome to my blog dear reader, today on my interview, I bring you a very special person Mr. Mvüko Koza , a real geek in music. He is a rapper and a song writer as well. When you tune into his music; he sounded more like a Naga Eminem. Well you can always listen to his songs if you don’t trust me. He is a person who has so much of love for music, his story is filled with dream, but yes one can only relief those dreams when you follow it.
Read on to know more about Mr Moko.......

Mr. Moko on line, listen to his track

Let’s begin with your intro.
To begin with, I’m Mvüko Koza but usually people call me Moko because they find it kinda challenging to pronounce my real name unless you're a Tenyimia. I'm from Chakhesang tribe and I have 3 brothers and a younger sister including my mom and dad.
Currently, I am doing my bachelor finals in Anthropology at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma. I'm also a member of a Naga hip-hop group, Naga Homeboiz.

Moko, How is Music connected to your daily life?
I don’t have a specific time, whether it'd be on a free time or you get bored from a lecture's explanation, you just plugged in your earphone. And it takes you to another dimension of time.
When it comes to music, i automatically switch into a nerd. I’m very concerned about with what I’m listening and what genre I’m listening to. Just because I like to write raps doesn't mean I only listen to rap music. I'm a big fan of genres like rock, metal, alternative, country, folk music, indies, soul rnb etc. The list goes on. Basically, if I were to calculate the time on how much I spend tuning to music would hypothetically be around 8-9 hours of the 24 hours based on daily basis.

Mr. Moko on line, listen to his track

Do you write your own script?
Yes, I write my own lyrics. It started out with me as a young kid writing lyrics of the famous rappers and lip syncing along with them. And it slowly engulgated myself in writing my own. You know, one of the best moments when you're writing a song and a dope phrase hit your mind and you'll be like, 'Goddamn it, Moko. That is some genius shit'. Songwriters will know what i mean.

When and how did you become interested in music?
How I got into rapping. It’s still crystal clear in my thoughts. It was back in 2005. I and my dad went to a CD store to check out some country songs because my dad was a country listener. My dad was there picking up some collections of ABBA and Smokies collection, I was there, just browsing through and I came across this Hip-Hop music collections. I stumbled onto an Eminem CD. Back then I knew he was a rapper. So, I just took that and bought it home. I bumped that CD into the DVD player...and the first song was his Oscar winning song 'Lose Yourself'. That song moved me like literally it did. And i don’t know if it was fate but the next day, one of my classmates bought the lyrics “Lose Yourself”. I borrowed from him and guess what; I bumped on my DVD player and started rapping.

What are your musical influences?
Eminem inspired me to rap. That I would say without hesitation. But as I start to go deeper and started to research about the history of hip-hop. I found more eminent personalities such as Ice cube, Rakim, Nas, Biggie, 2pac etc. And underground rappers like Mac lethal, Immortal technique, Louis Logic, Hopsin, etc...

Does anyone in your family play music?
All my siblings in my family got different taste in music. My elder bro, he is a rock fan and he is crazy with the guitars. My two smaller brothers are basically huge fans of pop music, RnBs & EDMs.

How do you manage to get rid of the stage fright?
Whenever I get to stage, of course I get a little bit of not myself. But what I do, before I step into the stage. I take a deep breath and slowly exhale out the uneasy and cheesy feeling. But now, I guess I’m used to it. I feel comfortable.

What do you think about Naga music industry?
Personally, I think the music industry in Nagaland is developing. And when i say it’s developing, I mean it because I’m a keen observer. Music website like Indi hut is doing a lot for the upcoming artists. Shout out to the whole team on Indihut.
In my own point of view, a major drawback of the naga music industry is the lack of well-established record labels and the promotion of certain genres in music. I’m not saying, the naga music industry is shit but what I feel is that there should be separate labels for different genres in music so that the record labels can promote their own artists separately on the basis on their genres. But i understand in order to do that we need more funds and supports and links. Gradually, I know Nagaland will soon establish its musical grounds. (No offence to anyone)
Mr. Moko on line, listen to his track

Do you get enough support from the people?
Yes, I get a lotta love and support from people around. They feel my music and lyrics, how they would hit me up and tell me they relate to me and my songs. That keeps me inspired and motivated and makes me wanna write more and more.

What is your dream as a rapper/ musician?
I wouldn't refer myself as a rapper now because I’m still not established yet. But as a person who likes to rap, the only reason I still like to rap is how I can relate myself with everybody. What I feel, they feel it too. It’s like we share the same state of mind. So, my dream is to be an artist, that voice when you wanna speak but you can't. When you wanna express something but you can’t show. I want to be their voice and expression because what’s in my thoughts, it’s there in their thoughts too.

Mr. Moko on line, listen to his track

How the life of a musician looks liked?
I think a musician have a different mindset. They like to look at the world in a different perspective. When I’m most inspired, writing a song is when I’m out in the world. Like hanging out, running for errands...words just hit my mind. I brainstorm and genius words just hit me. Then I go back home and jot those words in my pad. What I feel, musicians are the most sensitive people because they are aware of the real world and that’s how you'll find it in their songs too.

What are your struggles and challenges?
My struggles and challenges I face normally is how I try to cope with my college life and the music thing. I said earlier that I keep music as my hobby but sometimes I’m so into my hobby that I forget the other important things in my life. But now, gradually I’m learning to manage myself.

Mr. Moko on line, listen to his track

Your message to the readers?
My message to the readers, well, I’m not a guy with big words but...you and I are the same. Don't ever think yourself as inferior. You know you are special in your own cool way. Nobody can ever do it like you nor can nobody ever be you. You know what, our Creator is a genius. For real, He created everybody in their own special way. You just need to find that out.

Peace!

Naga footballer to play in Sweden

After a long selection procedure at Delhi in May, Lanvungthung Khuvung was selected by the Real Sports Association to play as striker at Gothia Cup Sweden which has been scheduled to be held from July 17 to 24 this year.

The association spotted the potential of this 20-year-old Naga youth, couple of years back when he was playing for the under-18 Nationals as captain of Sagar School Rajasthan. In that game he produced a man-of-the-match performance.
Lanvungthung Khuvung is the son of late AE Lotha, the former Special Secretary to the NLA, and currently pursuing degree education at Christ University Bangalore. On Wednesday, Eastern Mirror had an interaction with the player.
Though he started playing at the age of 10, Khuvung did not join any clubs because of the “hectic schedule in college.”

Asked how he got selected for the Gothia Cup Sweden this year, Khuvung said: “I had a friend who knew me personally, a close friend, so he told me about the selection process that was held in Delhi and told me to give it a try. So I took the opportunity and by the grace of God I got selected”.
Some famous names that have risen to global stardom through the platform of Gothia Cup include Andrea Pirlo, Xabi Alonso and Yaya Toure. Khuvung shared that getting selected to represent the country at this year’s Gothia Cup was his biggest achievement yet.

He cited his father as his inspiration. “Not only in football but as a whole. He was very dedicated to his work, never had any complaints even though he had so many problems and he always had time for family.” His other source of motivation was the Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, he shared. “Ronaldo showed us football is all about dedication and hard work”.

On football as his career, Khuvung said: “Till now I have not decided. Later on, if God makes way for me and I get chance to play in big stages, I will make it as a career”. As of now, he said, his family was not supporting him in choosing a career in football.

He was also queried on the possible problems that hinder growth of football in Nagaland. “First of all, lack of facilities as we can see there are no proper grounds, equipments etc. I feel there is no dedication from the players because other states are literally growing in football, playing in big stages where as in Nagaland there are hardly or not even one who plays in big stages like the ISL.
“So I feel we Nagas should be more dedicated and hard working. It is the key, as we all know we are very talented,” he remarked. At the Gothia Cup this year, he informed: “Team India is our team name for Real Sports Association/Academy. It is affiliated to the All India Football Association. Real Sports Academy has produced star players and talent where many are playing in Indian Super league and Indain League.”

Also, Khuvung had this to say to the youngsters and aspiring footballers in the state: “We are very talented and gifted so don't just waste it, give effort and hard work will surely pay off”.

Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

Hello readers, today I bring you an exclusive interview of Joney Naulak all the way from Manipur. Well he is a guitarist and a band member of Divine Instinct; this guy is always into music, whenever he gets free time, he start to tune his music. A person who hasn’t being renowned to many, but his commitment to his work has always being done exceptionally. As a hostel mate in Mangalore, Joney has been a part and parcel of my life, whenever he has to perform for a program, he would even give up his sleep in order to perfect the song for the next day. He is a hard working and a dedicated person. Let’s hear his story….
Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

Tell me something about yourself, your background and your band.
Hi, my name is N Langhlunthang Simte@Joney Naulak, I picked up guitar when I was 10. I have joined guitar classes and training sessions back in Manipur and Shillong.  Well currently I’m in a gospel rock band named Divine Instinct. We formed this band on 2014 with the idea to excel and use our talents for the glory of God. We do not believe that rock song is ungodly, infact we do believe that God won’t reject if we lift up our hearts and give our talents for His glory in any possible way we can.

Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

How it all started in Music?
Since I was small boy, music is my passion.  I have always dream and wanted to learn guitar someday. But doesn’t have any idea how to start and from where to start. The problem was that I personally didn’t own a guitar that time. But finally I got the opportunity to keep the church’s guitar one day and start learning it from friends. Then after few years I joined guitar class and went on. That’s how I learn how to play guitar.
Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

What music/ guitar means to you?
Music means everything to me. You know of course I understand and accept that I can’t choose music as my profession due to various reasons I’m compel to study. But I can’t live a single day without spending time with my guitar. hehe

How you get motivated/ whats your inspiration
Ok, I used to think that just learning guitar and knowing how to play some songs is enough, but one of my friend who is a guitarist as well showed me some scales, techniques, etc. from there I realized that I need to learn more theoretically and practically. I did listen to guitar solos from my favorite guitarist, they inspired me to play better and to keep learning and practice more….
Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

What is your hobby Mr Joney?
Other then music, my hobbies are like playing football which is my favorite, hanging out with friends and watching movies.

Joney, tell us about the best comments you have come across
I’m not really sure about this one, but I think the best comment would be on 2014, when I was in my previous band Confession in Confusion, we got selected to participate in a national Rock beat contest in Garo Hills, Meghalaya, “Simsang festival”, after the performance a band member from other bands who were much more experienced then us complimented that we did great though we were just a beginner at that time. Indeed I really feel good about myself and my band for the performance.

Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

Mention any of your bands achievement
Currently we are working on in the studio recording our first gospel music album title “Gel thah in”. it’s a Simte words which literally means “Think about it over again”, focusing on the life of a person who is a drug addict.  We have almost completed all the sound track and few songs just the vocal record is still pending. Our band is still young.
Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

Who is your favorite guitarist
I have quite a number of favorite guitarists but if I am to mention only one, I would say Marty Friedman.

What is the current status of your band?
As for now due to various responsibilities we have, all the members of the band, we all scattered, but planning to complete the pending project by this year if possible.

Mr. Commitment Joney Naulak, the guitarist

What do you say about the current music status in North East?
In our North East region, I think the status of music has changed a lot comparing to decade back. I think there is more recognition given to music profession and the market for it has improved a lot. I see there is hope and life too in this line for people who are interested to pursue music as a career.

Joney are you working on your masterpiece right now?
Right now I’m concentrating first with the album which we are working on, definitely in the days to come I’m thinking about writing a masterpiece soon.
Joney Naulak

Any plans of taking a music career?
I personally feel and know that I need to learn a lot more about music, so for that I will still go for some more music courses. But for full time career, I don’t really have a concrete plans as yet.

As an individual team, conflicts and rivalries are natural. What force brings you all back to team?
Yea of course conflicts, arguments and struggles are there on the way, but I think the love and passion we have for our band, and bonding we have as a friend would be the ultimate force that binds us together.

Divas Unleashed: The fun mode is on

Hey, hello, welcome to my blog dear reader, today I bring you a very young and exciting band from Dimapur; well they consider themselves as Divas Unleashed. If you know the band personally, you won’t mind to hear that name because of the way they dress up and perform on stage, creating Goosebumps and movements of  your body dance with the rhythm.  Fashionista is the right word I should use for these ladies.Lets chit chat with them and know more about them..
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on

Hello ladies, please enlighten us with your band.
The Divas Unleashed is a band of four girls: Aleah, Chipen, Sang and Amber. We perform on genres like rap,soul,hip-hop but we are very experimental because we love music as a whole. We have composed two originals that are yet to be recorded and few covers. We were honoured to perform them on MTF live JBC and on the event for cause during the Nepal Concert. Having been received with many positive responses from the people, it has pushed us further to release an original of our own soon. We make sure that we add a lot of our creative inputs on our covers that take the song into a whole new level.
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on
Please brief us about the shows/concerts you have been.
We have performed in the events like Hornbill Bamboo carnival, International Loin loom festival, Morung Festival to name some few and also in various private events around the state.
Since young age, we were always attached to good music and we loved coming together and perform. Artists like Rita Ora,Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez and many others inspired us through their music.
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on
Are you ladies from the same place? How do you manage your time for practice?
Yes we all reside in Dimapur. With our love for music we take our time off schedules for practice as it is our first priority. Before our performances we would always prep ourselves for the stage. Our fun mode is always on both on the backstage and on the stage as well and through that we are able to connect to the crowd as we start the show. We reminisce and treasure every single gig we have done so far. We love to talk about them and cherish every page as a team.
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on
What you see yourself in five years?
By the grace of God, in 5 years we want to see ourselves doing what we love the most that is, making music on and on and inspire people through our music.
We do not have plans for tours now but hopefully soon and whenever we come together we jam, share ideas and try to work on new covers.
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on
Are you best friends??? Just band mates?
We are so much more than band mates and best friends but we are biological sisters. We are like the best of friends on and off stage. With our similar passion and love for music it brought us together to begin a thrilling journey as one. The best compliment we received was “The Divas can really bring live to the stage" #Humbled
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on
What are your struggles and problem you faced as a musician?
Every team has its own struggle. Our problem as a band is that we need people to sponsor us. With the right push, we will be able to give out so much more than we do. We need a guide to lead us in enhancing our skills and talents to a greater level. We have the passion but it is just that the right mentor is missing in the team.
Yet we do not want to give up on this beautiful musical journey. We encourage each other as sisters and grow as performers and as a team.We need a lot of supportive friends,so do like us and check our updates on the Divas Unleashed Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/divasonprowl/
Thank-you!
Divas Unleash: The fun mode is on

Thats all for today folks, If you like to be a part of my blog, do contact me, keep reading my blog for more updates... I am signing off for the day.

Nagalish, you may consider your lingo

We are living in an era of screens where people choose to talk behind screens and ignore the person sitting next to you. The imaginary world has sucked the people out of its comfort zone. In today’s generation, rich or poor, asked any teenager if they have a smart phone or not. 80% does nowadays. We can even go to the extent of asking if they play Clash of Clan (COC) or not. The social network life has attribute to our daily needs, Whatsapp have introduced the chunk of undefined words in our cell phone.
Credit: Damn,seriously
Facebook starts with the update “what’s in your mind”; now our mindset has evolved with unlimited queries and activities in social network using lingos. You l always find these words in Facebook “what you think, what you feel" and "what you did" to "what you are doing (I’m in the toilet, want to join me?)", "who your crush was", "where you are going" and " what you are watching (seriously, stop the social commentary, I have TVs at home and I can see the score or I can Google it if I want)". But despite all the ridiculous updates, I love social media. I love how social media has brought us closer and well, you won't have to act like you remembered their birthdays anymore (Moment of truth, I don't even know my last two digits phone number).
Credit: Damn,seriously
Remember when it is your birthday and you get hoards of wishes from relatives and friends. Many of which don't talk to you for the whole year, except on some special occasions, perhaps on your result day. "Thank you Social Media, you have made wishing people cheaper and easier."To an extent, you also have taken away the etiquette of wishing, maybe, perhaps. But who would have thought social networking sites like Facebook and WhatsApp become the death of a beautiful language such as English?
Credit: Damn, seriously
Imagine it is your birthday and you get wishes from people all around. Write a happy birthday wish? Okay, cool, acceptable. Thank you.  But the wishes read, "Hi! Api b'dae,HBD, Gbu, Enzoe ua dae '
No offence God, but I read gbu as Gabu not God bless you and it makes me go hulk.
"What????? On my birthday also? Really? I almost poop myself inside my pant, Are you F* serious? You fun spoiling, rotten potato of a thing! Is that even a language? How do you expect me to enjoy my day after seeing something like that? I don't want to sound superstitious but that is a bad luck. Well, not on my birthday at least please."
On the other contrary, what do you expect if the other person does the same to you?
Say like you wished someone and they reply with ty, tnx, thnx.
"Seriously man, I am taking my time to type you a message and all you do is Ty me? Well, at least have the courtesy to say 'thank you' or 'thanks' instead of the lingos."
The other day I was browsing, jobless like any other day and I came across a status. I barely was able to make out a single word that girl was trying said. I don't recall coming across any word such as Hurd, ew for you, dam for damn, fol for fool, daying in any dictionary. I had to stop midway for the love of my precious eyes.  The monstrosity of the abuse was too much for the eye to bear. I am no Higgins but Higgins would have never forgiven the woman for the blunder she made to the English language and refuse to take her in. But yes I do appreciate your sexism to attract your opposite partner using the lingos. You must have been a big shot lady who could score anywhere.
Well English is not our mother tongue but we have been taught how to write and speak English since nursery. Even all the smart phones even have auto correction. You can't claim to know English and type like that. Yes, text language saves time but if you can speak proper English, why not learn to type proper English too instead of blabbering the words with lingo?
Credit: Damn,seriously
We are letting text language flourish in our land, and much of the formalism surrounding the use of English has been discarded.
It is time for us to seriously consider and question our brand of English. As we see, so far English has a comparatively confined existence in different places. In fact, it is dignity of the language! Our English must adopt the complexion of our lives and assimilate its idioms, but not mongrelize the language. Let us respect the rule of law and maintain the dignity of language.
